The Project: Redevelopment of brownfield site to provide 5 detached high quality residential properties
The Brief: The proposed development comprises demolition of the existing bungalow and garage and the erection of 5 oak framed dwellings to compliment the character and setting of the site.
The Soluition: the existing woodland setting and topography provided opportunties to develop the scheme to provide 5 large bespoke dwellings accessed from a central bound gravel driveway with three radiating around the West of the road, a fourth set as a full stop to the road against a backdrop of trees and a small dwelling set between the trees to the East on the site of the existing house and garages. Dwellings 1-4 are accessed from the road level with private parking and turnings areas set in front of the houses. Plot 5 is then accessed from below with the garage area below the main living spaces. This layout allows dwellings to step up and down the slope of the site to naturally to suit the topography with minimal cut and fill necessary to either the road or garden sides of the dwellings. This radiating layout of the plan also reduces the potential for overlooking from the dwellings and allows framed views between dwellings to reduce the perception of a mass of building. The proposed design illustrates traditional characteristics in terms of massing and scale but detailed and elevated in a contemporary manner. which provides for a high quality development appropriate to the site context.
