Vinings Dining, Gloucester
The Project: Restaurant extension to Vinings Warehouse, Gloucester Docks
The Client: Crest Nicholson South West
The Brief: Crest Nicholson (SW) were refurbishing all of the grade II listed warehouses in Gloucester dock. As part of the scheme a new restaurant was to be created adjacent to Vinings Warehouse
The Solution: We were keen to develop a structure that was in keeping with the industrial heritage of the site whilst still having a contemporary approach to design. The structure also needed to be of a scale and appearance that could respond to the surrounding warehouses without being of an equal scale.
The elevation addressing the public space created by the existing warehouses was treated as a formal hard edged façade whilst the façade addressing the docks was designed as a more freeform elevation and was fully glazed addressing an external dining area.
The solid elements of the façade were constructed using Corten steel, with time this material develops a rusted finish which has a similar colour and tone to that of the existing brick warehouses.
The scheme was completed Autumn 2004 and was awarded a Civic Trust Award in 2005
