Listed Building Consent secured for refurbishment project at Grade II listed Cheltenham school
April 17, 2025

Listed Building Consent has been granted for a heritage project at Berkhampstead School.
The project will see us working with the Cheltenham-based independent school to sensitively upgrade and refurbish a Grade II listed building as part of the school’s ongoing maintenance plan.
For the Listed Building Consent application, we worked with Berkhampstead School to clearly demonstrate how restoration, refurbishment, redecoration and other works would not impact the listed building but preserve original features, and enhance its character.
Built in the mid-19th century, the building, which is in the Cheltenham Conservation Area, was originally a pair of semi-detached villas. It was converted for use by Berkhampstead School in the 1950s.
Mike Court, Associate Director at coombes:everitt, said: “We’re pleased to have successfully obtained Listed Building Consent on this beautiful building. It has a fascinating history, and we’re glad to be able to play a part in sensitively refurbishing it.
“As a practice, our experience is very much grounded in historic and heritage buildings, as well as sensitive settings, so we can bring our expertise and knowledge to every level of this interesting project.”
We’re looking forward to seeing the benefits the completed restoration will bring to the students and staff of Berkhampstead School.
