We’ve recently secured planning permission for a new Scout hut and community hall on the edge of Cirencester, working alongside Cirencester Town Council, Terrace Chartered Building Surveyors & Built Heritage Consultants, and Wildwood Ecology.
The project replaces a derelict community building on the site with a modern facility designed to support a range of local groups. The new Obelisk Community Rooms include two flexible activity spaces, a small café, toilets, offices and an information suite. The site sits within the setting of the Cirencester Roman amphitheatre, so the design needed to respond sensitively to the landscape and wider heritage context.
Although the building has a larger footprint than the existing structure, the form is broken down into smaller elements to keep it welcoming and appropriately scaled. The palette of Cotswold stone, timber and metal cladding gives the building a contemporary feel while still sitting comfortably within its green, tree‑lined surroundings.
This has been a rewarding project to work on because of the direct benefit it will bring to local residents, youth organisations and community groups once complete.
