Planning permission granted for apartments in Cheltenham

We recently received the good news that a submission for six apartments near The Park, Cheltenham, has secured planning for our client MD Construction.

The new apartments will replace a four-bed detached home in a conservation area.

The site's urban setting meant when we were designing the scheme we had to significantly consider the impact the build would have on the surrounding buildings and their amenity spaces.

For example, our design included balconies and terraces, so we needed to make sure that they wouldn't overlook the outside spaces of adjacent properties. This led us to locate them on the front elevation, so they'll overlook the street instead.

There are several two, three and four storey properties in the area, as well as some listed buildings close by, so we also needed to consider the scale of the scheme in our designs, ensuring the massing of the proposed apartments was suitable for its setting.

Locating the balconies on the front elevation will help to articulate the façade and breakdown the mass of the three-storey structure.

The project is due to start on site in late summer 2026 after some pre-commencement planning conditions are cleared.

One of these includes addressing the 10% net gain in BNG. On this site we have taken a split approach, with the BNG Hedgerow requirements being provided on site and the BNG Habitat requirements off site.
