New homes in Green Belt secure planning in Cheltenham

The Paddocks is a scheme of three new five-bed homes that have been granted planning approval in Cheltenham.

We designed the contemporary homes with cues from the surrounding Cotswold landscape, using Cotswold stone at ground floor level, alongside composite timber cladding and natural slate roofs.

As the site sits within Green Belt Development, scale, massing and positioning were all important factors for us to consider. The houses have therefore been designed to reduce their visual impact and preserve views through the development towards the hillside beyond when seen from the street.

The flat roofs will be Sedum-covered to help soften the appearance of the buildings and reduce their visual prominence. The planted roofscape will also allow the homes to sit more quietly within their setting, creating harmony between the built form and the natural landscape.

Inside, the layout continues that connection with the countryside setting. Open-plan living spaces at ground floor level have full-height glazed walls at the rear, opening up views towards the garden and beyond, helping the landscape feel part of the home.

We worked really closely with Evans Jones on this project, specifically Amanda Stobbs, who was the planning consultant.

This scheme follows a project we worked on together two years ago, for two homes that sit on the site next to this one.
