New housing development wins industry award

Willowside project

Our collaboration with Castlethorpe Homes Ltd on a small residential development in Withington, Gloucestershire, has won the LABC West of England award for Best Small New Housing Development, an industry award recognising design excellence.

The development, Willowside Grange, transformed a former farmstead into a collection of distinctive new homes — including a new stone farmhouse, semi-detached cottages and contemporary Dutch barns — each designed to reflect and complement the surrounding Cotswold village.

A key focus of the scheme was sustainability. Much of the original farm building stone was reclaimed and reused, with all homes constructed using highly sustainable materials and methods to deliver five energy-efficient, modern living spaces.

The result is a thoughtful, site-sensitive development that combines traditional craftsmanship with contemporary architecture.

Toby Coombes, Director at coombes:everitt architects, said: “This project reflects what we love to do; design homes that feel authentic to their setting while embracing sustainable design principles. It’s been a pleasure to work with Castlethorpe Homes on a scheme that celebrates local character and design quality.”

Congratulations to Castlethorpe Homes and our wider project team on this well-deserved recognition.
